Vinyl Siding Facts Versus Myths
The vinyl siding industry has increased in the last few years, having a strong market in parts of the U.S. and Canada. This is down to its affordability, durability, and numerous design benefits, in addition to the different colors, styles, and other innovations by leading manufacturers. However, the industry still has to contend with some re-occurring myths circulated by competitors who try to say that vinyl siding is cheap looking.
Myth 1: Reduces the value of your home.
FACT: This is not true, in fact, vinyl siding will actually increase it. A Home Remodeling Impact Report that was published by the NAR in cooperation with the NARI states that vinyl siding raises a home’s value by 82% of the project’s cost. This is a 20% increase from the 2019 Home Remodeling Impact Report. Therefore, by adding a fresh look to the exterior of your home using durable, low maintenance, and energy-efficient siding, vinyl is the one to choose.
Myth 2: Vinyl Siding warps and buckles.
FACT: Vinyl siding will actually expand and contract along with the weather conditions. For example, in summer, when temperatures increase, vinyl siding will expand. Issues such as warping or buckling will only happen when the siding was not installed properly. Happily, though, there is now a growing number of experienced, certified siding installers in most areas that will help to ensure that your home’s siding continues to look fantastic, and performs as it should for years to come.
Myth 3: Vinyl siding is not easy to recycle.
FACT: This is actually the opposite, vinyl siding is the most recyclable material in the building industry. Research reports that more than a billion pounds of vinyl/PVC is recycled every year just in North America alone, and most of the recycled vinyl is obtained from pre-consumer recycling. The recycling starts at the manufacturing process. VSI member manufacturers invented and continue to perfect the recycling process so there is less than 1% waste.
